Home Sweet Home....

We are back from a week and a half in Aruba..... I hate saying it but Aruba was like a prettier South Florida (much prettier). I just didn't really feel like we left the country. I was hoping the Dutch Carribean was well.... more Dutch. Everything was very similar to the things we have in the US. But the beach was soooo pretty. And after a solid week of laying on the beach, I kinda felt antsy to get up and do stuff. So we found a local named Maddy to take us on a tour of the back country of Aruba. That was soooo much fun!!!!!! I would say if you plan to go to Aruba or even stop there on a cruise you have to look up Maddy and take a half day tour with her in her off road jeep. What a BLAST!!!! Some highlight pics of our trip below!

Home base for us at the Marriott Surf Club where we bought a time share for the week and spent loads of time lounging on the lazy river with Balashi beers!
The off road jeep tour with our local tourguide Maddy, took us to the Natural Pool. The rocks along the ocean form a calm, closed off space for visitors to take a dip and you can even snorkel around the pool for a bit. SO FUN!

Baby Beach is on the south side of Aruba and was so much fun to take a swim and snorkel for the afternoon. Some of the most colorful fish we've ever seen were at this reef. Also a good beach for beginner swimmers and kids. It was so calm and relaxing!
Our lizard friends are everywhere in Aruba. They aren't scared of people either- I actually saw one crawl up some guys leg- no joke! Fun fact is that if they fall into a pool they can swim to the steps and climb out!!!!

Chachkies

Urban Dictionary describes CHACHKIES as:
the yiddish word for trinkets and collectables, AKA "dust collectors" that you would find in an old lady's house.
"Mrs. Silverman had lots of chachkies sitting on her mantle, many of them collected from garage sales and yard sales over the years."
I promise that I'm not an OLD lady yet, but I guess the collecting of stuff starts at a young age so by the time I am actaully OLD, I will have a fabulous Chachkie collection of my own!
Soon enough the hubs and I will be going on vaca.
I have a problem with always bringing back a special momento from the places we visit.
Normally, I tend to pick up local art. I think that's because I have no artisitic abilities AT ALL!
From Israel we have clay made bongo drums (small ones- like mini's) sitting on our bookshelf
From Hawaii a wood carving we lovingly named Turtle Head because he is a totem pole man with a turtle carved into his head
From Italy we have various paintings we bought from a street vendor in Venice. I could not get over that she painted them right in front of us.
From Barbados - a beautiful handmade clay vase
From Murano we bought a glass horse at a glass making factory where we had  a private tour.
My shelves are FULL of chachkes and I don't know how to stop overcompensating for my lack of artistic ability.  I did try a paint by number for adults- its the only thing that kept me busy when recooping from knee surgery this summer. It actually came out pretty good.
I will keep you posted on my next chachkie purchase. Happy shopping!!!

LATEX

The hubs and I just bought a new bed. We joke that we have a dorm-room bedroom. All of our furniture is from college and is mix-matched. Honestly, its a disaster. We want to wait until we purchase a house before we buy "real-people" furniture. BUT, we are bed snobs. We love a nice comfy bed and the one we've had since college graduation is a little too soft for me (or maybe thats because we've put on a few elllbeezzz in the past 10 years). This month we went to Sleepy's and upgraded to a King size bed. It is a latex bed. Yup, there you have it- LATEX. It's really not how it sounds and you'd never know it was made of latex. It has no springs and is like a memory foam mattress but you don't sink in nearly as much- and its Eco-friendly!!! We are loving the upgrade and are looking to invest in some trendy bedding now. I'm literally looking all over for a nice comforter and sheet set. We bought a "starter" comforter which is RL white and modern and I absolutely LOVE how it looks for spring- just like a hotel bed with alot of dorm room furniture around it:)

I never realized just how expensive comforter sets can get (especially for a king bed)and have been going to Marshalls, Homegoods, etc. to try and find bed in a bag deals but just am not getting the modern look that we're going for. I just checked out some new comforter sets from hotel collection bedding. I am liking the 10 piece Egyptian Cotton bed in a bag set which includes comforter, sheets, pillow cases, and fancy decorative pillows all for $165- not a bad deal.
For our old queen bed that we just put in the guest room, I'm thinking ahead for fall I really wanted to get a red-ish color scheme bedroom set for it- check out comforter sets queen. I really like the 8 piece Bombay Stripe Comforter Set that has all the fall colors I like in it.
After searchng around the sight I also decided I really hate hurricane lamps. The name sounds cool, catchy, and modern. But they look like they belong in a farmhouse. Not my style at ALL.

I think some of the best bedding deals can be found online. I would never be able to go to Macy's and pay full price for all this stuff thats mostly for decoration!!! And don't even think about knocking the latex bed, I've been sleeping like a baby!!!

RTR

Maybe I live under a rock, but this is the first I'm hearing of RTR. I heard it from a fashionista friend of mine this past weekend and had nooo idea what she was talking about.
Warning- this may deplete savings accounts and become quite addicting. Feel free to continue reading if you dare....

RTR stands for Rent the Runway. I will give you the site link, but like I said.. BEWARE! Click it if you dare:)

Basically RTR is for women who want to get teh high-fashion, name brand dress and not have to pay the high price. You can RENT the designer dress at 90% off the price it would cost to buy it.
You can play around on the website and order your glamooo gown and it gets delivered to your house in 2 sizes... yup two sides so like an 8 or a 10 and not sure which one, you get BOTH! They also let you rent a second dress option for an additional $25 dollars.. not a bad deal.
To further burn holes in your pockets, they offer designer accessories (such as bags-my personal weakness).

Once you wear the dress-- then you return in the pre-paid envelope they send you.
And if your a little tipsyyy when wearing the dress and stain it- no worries-only a $5 cleaning fee applies. So wear the white dress and drink cranberry-vodkas all night you rockstars!

I am not being paid to write this about RTR and no, I haven't tried it out just yet because the nano I found out about it, I couldn't wait to share the news!
Has anyone ever tried this service before???!!!!

I'm going to see what I feel like sporting to some majorly classy affairs I have coming up- HAPPY SHOPPING!!!!!!

Work it Ladies!

Groupons and a girl scout cookie update

I seriously can not stop looking at Groupon Deals. They get me all the time!!!!
Groupon is a website that negotiates huge discounts with popular businesses and offers 50-90% products and services. You know me well enough to know I am a sucker for the deals. I recently purchased a Groupon for half price brunch at a local country club for when my family comes into town. Groupon always has spa, fitness, and beauty services deals. Its a great way to try out a new hairdresser or gym. Today there's a great deal on a boat cruise around DC Harbor that makes me crave springtime weather- I think I'm going to buy 2 tickets so the hubs and I can cruise around in April for the Cherry Blossom Festival- which if you have never been to DC in early April you must check out this festival!

I added a link on my sidebar so you can checkout the Groupon Deals in your area by just entering your zipcode. My link will bring you to the DC Groupon Deal of the day.
If you haven't yet signed up for Groupon you HAVE to do it! I have a link you can use to get started and it will say that I referred you (which in turn rewards me with a $10 Groupon credit- bonus for me!). Trust me, you will love this site and will end up purchasing something because the deals are too good to pass up!

Following up on a post that lots of people asked about: The 3 pointsplus Kellogs Carmel Coconut Fudge bars taste 100% like girl scout Samosa cookies!!! So you CAN do weight watchers points plus AND eat something that tastes just as good as Gril Scout cookies!!! These bars are the best thing ever invented!!!! Save yourself and go to the grocery to buy the Kellogs FiberPlus bars 2 for $5 and you will never miss girl scout cookies again!
